Use a few marks to describe where wear occurs.

01

Map wear

Mark likely contact, footfall and friction areas. Choose a dominant mark for each rather than placing rust, mud, dust and scratches everywhere.

02

Control density

Test sponge marks on scrap material before adding a few to the model. Leave small marks and clear space around larger chips. Establish dark marks first, then decide where exposed-metal highlights help.

03

Stop and review

Return the model to normal viewing distance. If marks dominate everything, reduce their extent or repaint with the base color. Keep a clean version and a weathered version for comparison.
