Why white models need gray

Reserve room for the brightest areas.

01

White need not be brightest everywhere

If every surface has the same pure white, form relies entirely on room lighting. Pale gray or ivory can serve as a midtone while pure white is reserved for selected highlights.

02

Test one part

Divide one armor panel into shadow, midtone and highlight. Compare under consistent lighting instead of enforcing a fixed percentage of gray.

03

Avoid rushing coverage

Check whether the undercoat is too dark and whether each coat has dried. Try adjusting the undercoat and application before adding more white paint.
